How to Keep Your Planters Fresh *
Spring + Summer Planters:
Aftercare Guide
Keeping your planters fresh, full, and thriving all season long.
Your spring and summer planters are designed with seasonal blooms selected to thrive in Chicago’s changing conditions. With consistent care, they’ll stay lush and beautiful for weeks.
Hydration is Key 💦
Water is everything—especially as temperatures begin to rise.
Water deeply every 1–2 days, depending on weather
On warm or windy days, check daily
Soil should feel lightly moist — not dry, not soggy
Covered stoops often don’t receive enough rain, so don’t rely on weather alone
Seasonal Longevity 🌸
Your planters are designed to evolve with the season.
Spring plantings typically thrive through late May or early June
Summer planters are designed to last through the hottest months with proper care
You may notice natural growth, stretching, or soft changes in shape over time — this is part of the look
Mind the Elements ☀️
Chicago weather can shift quickly, and your planters will respond.
In the Spring, warm days may cause temporary wilting — this is normal. Plants typically bounce back quickly with water and cooler temps
Direct sun and wind will dry containers faster
Heavy rain can sometimes compact soil — check moisture levels after storms
Light Maintenance ✂️
A quick refresh keeps everything looking polished. Think of this as a weekly tidy.
Remove spent blooms to encourage new growth
Trim any yellowing or wilted foliage
Gently fluff and reshape as plants grow and settle
Feeding + Soil 🪴
We’ve already set you up for success. Fresh soil and slow-release fertilizer are included at installation.
For Window Boxes + Containers 🌿
Smaller containers dry out faster and may need more frequent watering
Make sure water fully saturates the soil (not just the top layer)
Water until they’re dripping!
Ensure proper drainage — standing water is a red flag.
Seasonal Refresh 🌼
As the season progresses, your planters may naturally begin to slow.
We offer mid-season refreshes and summer replanting services to keep your stoop looking its best.
If you’d like to refresh or transition your planters, reach out or book directly on our site.
End-of-Season Transition ♻️
When the season wraps, we can help transition your planters into fall.
If you’re planning ahead for pumpkins or autumn styling, we recommend booking early — our fall calendar fills quickly. Pumpkins will only be offered on a pre-sale basis this year, and we expect them to sell out in August.
